Parent Tips: Practice 4.3.4

In Practice 4.3.4, we ask your kids to edit the Declaration of Independence, first to add appropriate commas and then to ruin it with fuzzy writing. If your child has completed Levels 2 and 3 of June Writers Academy, they will be familiar with the Declaration of Independence already; we picked it apart in various ways in those earlier levels. However, even if your child has already read and worked with this document, they may still struggle with this practice because this is a challenging text for many young people. Big words, antiquated language, intricate sentences, and unfamiliar content.

So, if your child struggles with this practice, they may need your help to talk through the specific meaning of each sentence. Or, you can send them to our Live Help Hours and we can work with them until they understand the text.

Could we have assigned an easier text? Sure. But working with challenging texts at strategic intervals accelerates kids’ competency into new dimensions.
