News: Level 5 lessons now live!

Cat Story: Meet our Level 5 cat, The Overdressed Floof. Being a child or cat is a time of exuberance, but that doesn’t mean kids and cats can’t learn to edit. In Level 5, we teach your kids to question all the accessories as well as the shape, color, and choice of the main outfit. Note: This work is floof-approved. No cats are harmed in our editing process.

We’re thrilled to announce that Level 5: Advanced Solo Editing is now live on our private membership site!

Most adults and kids think of editing as the process of correcting grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. (aka, line editing). Line editing is crucial, but it’s only one part of the editing process. We begin teaching kids about editing in Level 1: Complex Sentences and, in Levels 2-4, help your child build additional layers to their skill set. By the time they finish Level 4, they should be comfortable editing their work for clarity, audience strategy, and grammatical and mechanical precision. But these are only surface skills.

Level 5: Advanced Solo Editing teaches your kid to go below the hood. In this level, kids learn to do deep self-editing—of their ideas and the power and pacing of their texts. Is your argument valid? Are your words pitch perfect? Kids dissect the essays they wrote in Levels 3 and 4 by editing them for content and then words & flow over the course of the level, using our feedback on each practice to refine their ideas and mechanics along the way. Kids who complete Level 5 will have a portfolio of highly-polished essays and a deep comfort with intense editing—invaluable skills for school and beyond.
