Parent Resource: Preparing your gifted child for writing assessments
We often hear from students who want to prepare for the writing assessment component of school or special program applications. These assessments are above and beyond the short answer and essay(s) your child must write as part of the regular application. The assessments are designed to check whether your student was indeed the author of their application and to get a better understanding of your child’s personal and/or academic potential. If your child hasn’t had much writing instruction, hates writing, or is just plain nervous, the prospect of these assessments can feel daunting, to say the least. So, we’ve put together a free guide to help you and your child prepare for typical assessments. Gifted students often apply to schools and programs with especially rigorous requirements—the schools are looking for glimmers of potential for unusually promising thought. Our guide reflects this somewhat unique situation.
