Parent Tips: Checking understanding of the principle

We want your child to master Standard English conventions, and we also want to ensure that they understand why they’re making these decisions. A number of our practices will look deceptively simple to kids at first glance but are designed to check their understanding of the impact and meaning behind a convention—which can be quite subtle. Adults don’t usually ask children to think about these questions until we give them complex poetry or other texts in middle and high school. June Writers believes your child is more than capable of digging into these deeper questions now.
