Parent Tips: Practice 1.2.2

Kids of this age are still doing the difficult work of both learning to think critically and learning the physical movements required to put their increasingly complex thoughts on a piece of paper or screen. Memes are an opportunity to engage kids where they’re at and make this complicated process fun; they engage kids’ natural interest in the humor of the world around them, including the digital world. Chances are your child has already heard about memes from their friends–though this may not be the case for all children.

So, yes, memes get kids writing. But we’ll also soon also use memes to make the connection to the importance of audience when writing, a concept that isn’t usually taught until much later in a writer’s development.
