Spacing

What you need to know about spacing:

  1. No spaces between letters in a word.

  2. One space between words.

  3. One space after ending punctuation, like a period or a question mark.

  4. Single- or double-spaced line spacing.

  5. One space after commas.

  6. One space before a beginning quotation mark and one space after a closing quotation mark.

  7. No space before, one space after semicolons, colons, and an ending parenthesis.

  8. One space before, but no space after a beginning parenthesis.

  9. No space before or after hyphens (unless the hyphen is a dangling hyphen) or em dashes.
