Launch News: Level 4 lessons now available!

Lessons one through four of Level 4: Grammar for Life are now available to members. We will post the remaining lessons in July and August.

If you’ve been itching to get your kid to finally (yes, a split infinitive) tighten up the mechanics of their writing—no more misplaced commas and complicated subjunctive clauses, etc.—this is the summer to realize your goal. June Writers believes in the twin teaching pillars of rigor and joy, and Level 4 is full of big brain leaps that tickle your child’s brain.

Topics in Level 4

Level 4 is designed for kids who are comfortable reading long books, analyzing and dissecting complex texts, and writing original essays and/or fiction stories of at least five paragraphs. Level 4 has a heavy emphasis on analysis in addition to mechanics.

  • Grammar: Word cases, phrases cases & the sentence role of a word or phrase

  • Commas: When to use them, how to decide when the situation is ambiguous, Oxford comma or no Oxford comma?

  • The fuzzies: The grammatically correct but awkward ways that kids make their writing hard to understand, including dangling participles, tense issues, and the subjunctive

  • Emotional formatting: Aka, how to wean your kid off of exclamation marks, bolding, wild fonts, and emoji—and embrace the power of their words

  • The interrupters: Dashes, parentheses, and ellipses

  • Semicolons

  • Editing

  • Spelling & vocabulary

  • Greek & Latin roots
