Parent Tips: Lesson 2.8

Lesson 2.8 is about writing paragraph content in chronological order, but it’s also about teaching kids to think about the best ways to organize their thoughts. By this point in Level 2, kids have learned that writing paragraphs is about communicating your complex thought process on a topic as clearly as possible to your audience. Kids are practicing bulk paragraph writing but also getting used to ways of adjusting how they organize their thought and writing. Chronology—or time order—is an accessible organizing principle for kids. And it’s a fun opportunity to uncover the reality that the foundational ideas that we take for granted in everyday life, like the concept of time, are social constructs. Kids will usually find this revelation awesome. If you have a kid who gets excited about learning more, rest assured that there are plenty of books that get into the history and science of time; feed the interest at your library.
