Sample Practice: Level 2

Level 2 teaches children how to develop arguments by moving from lists of related sentences into complex paragraphs. The first half of the level is especially ripe with Big Brain Leap practices, which are moments when your child is taking an especially large intellectual leap. Learning to write a strong argument sentence is one such leap.

In Practice 2.3.3: Creating Argument Sentences, we teach kids to build argument sentences that already contain two layers of thought. This may not be how kids write argument sentences when they’re older, but starting with a multi-layered sentence makes it easy for kids to write two-layer arguments right away. It is then a short distance to travel to reach a three-layer argument, our goal for your child. For bright children, learning to write arguments is about unfolding thought, not just organizing information.
