Sample Practice: Roots
Practice 3.5.4: Roots Practice 4 is typical for our roots series. Kids learn and practice five roots and 10 vocabulary words per practice for at least four practices per level in our program. We offer root practice sets in each level of our program and incorporate roots into our end-of-level and end-of-program assessments. Learning roots is a fun way to accelerate your child’s vocabulary development. We expect them to learn the meaning of the words as well as the proper spelling, and then to put their new vocabulary words to use in writing poems. In this practice, your child will have already learned how to write a sonnet.
In Levels 3, 4, and 5, the multiple-choice section of the root and spelling lessons are mini-quizzes. We do this to encourage kids to learn the roots and spelling words quickly and to make room for writing more essays at the end of lessons. So, the yellow slides below are in quiz format.
Check out our Roots parent tip post for information about why we teach Greek and Latin roots.
